Step-by-step instructions

Run a single app, such as Microsoft Word, in a different language than the rest of macOS. You set this per app in System Settings under General > Language & Region.

  1. Open System Settings and click "General" in the left sidebar.
  2. In the General list, click "Language & Region".
  3. Scroll down to the "Applications" section and click the "+" (add) button below the list.
  4. In the sheet that appears, click the "Application" pop-up menu (it shows the current app, for example "Safari").
  5. Choose "Microsoft Word" from the list of applications.
  6. Click the "Language" pop-up menu, which currently shows "System Default - English (UK)".
  7. Select the language you want the app to use, for example "Espanol - Spanish".
  8. Click the blue "Add" button to apply the language to the app. Quit and reopen the app for the change to take effect.
