Step-by-step instructions

Want Chrome, Firefox, or another browser to open your links instead of Safari? On macOS the default browser is set in System Settings — here's how to change it in three clicks.

  1. Open System Settings and click "Desktop & Dock" in the left sidebar.
  2. Scroll down to the "Widgets" section and click the "Default web browser" dropdown — it shows Safari by default.
  3. Choose your preferred browser, such as Google Chrome, from the list. macOS switches your default browser immediately.

This how-to was recorded with StepGrab, a native macOS app that captures a screenshot at every click and turns it into a numbered, annotated guide. Every frame above is a real screen from a Mac — press play to watch each step, or download the full guide as a PDF or video.
